Anois is a youth leadership programme offered by the Diocese of Limerick to students of local schools.
The Anois Leadership Programme is a residential student leadership programme offered to TY students. It is based on the Training for Transformation Programme which is associated with the work of Brazilian Educator Paolo Freire. It revolves around experiential learning (learning by doing) and participants learn the importance of Listening, Planning, Acting, and Reflecting.
Anois utilises a holistic approach to education and strives to nourish the student not just mentally, but emotionally, spiritually, and physically as well. The Anois programme caters to all these needs through the various workshops, games, and morning and night prayer. During the week a student will learn more about leadership as well as learning more about themselves. They will also deepen existing school friendships and develop new ones. The intention is that students will return to their school and use what they have learned to implement a project that will enhance their school environment in some way. Anois is a very active programme and the week is a very busy one.
Every year up to 15 schools from across Limerick City and County take part. About 40 students take part each week along with approximately 15 trained leaders who for the most part are in third level education with many of them having done Anois when they were in TY.
