Sisters of Mercy from Alma, Michigan

On November 9th, 2023 two Sisters of Mercy from Alma, Michigan arrived in the diocese of Limerick to set up a foundation at the invitation of Bishop Brendan Leahy. The first two sisters to arrive on November 9th were Sr. Miriam RSM and Sr. Valerie (postulant).  A small convent was made available to them in Ashbourne Avenue, courtesy of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy.

Srs. Miriam and Valerie came on a temporary capacity while the Sisters who were assigned to the foundation in Limerick were applying for visas. During their stay Sisters Miriam and Valerie visited a number of the original foundations of the Sisters of Mercy and some scenic parts of Ireland. They were also busy making habits for Sr. Valerie in preparation for her formal reception as a Sister of Mercy in July 2024.

Both Sisters had done much of the preparation for the arrival of Sr. Mary Dolora Keating RSM on 21st December 2023 and Sr Sean Marie Striby RSM on 21st May 2024. The foundation of the Alma Sisters is in its infancy and the Sisters are availing of their early days to become familiar with the diocese and their surroundings in Limerick.
