Limerick Diocesan Assembly; One Diocese, Many Stories

Our Diocesan Assembly was held on Saturday 5th of October 2019 in Rathkeale House Hotel.

The theme of the Assembly was ‘One Diocese, Many Stories’.  Stories of initiatives and activities being undertaken across the Diocese following the Synod were shared.  There were three rounds of storytelling throughout the day so each person could choose 3 different stories to join.  There was a very joyful atmosphere with great sharing and listening as people moved around the 23 story tables.

All six themes in the Pastoral Plan and the Synod were represented in the stories presented.

Community and Belonging 

Under the theme of Community and Belonging stories were shared on the following:

  • Welcome and Hospitality (Cratloe Parish)
  • Lectio Divina; Small Christian Communities (Newcastlewest Parish)
  • Local Pilgrimage; the Well at Barrigone (St Senan’s Parish)
  • Laudato Si (Salesian Cosmology Group)
  • Limerick Diocese Trócaire Volunteer Group
  • Missionary Outreach Synod Group
  • Traveller Outreach 

Pastoral Care of the Family

Under the theme of Pastoral Care of the Family stories were shared on the following:

  • Family Fun Days (WMOF Diocesan Committee)
  • Visible Reminders of an Invisible Light art initiative (WMOF Diocesan Committee)
  • Children’s Grief Centre
  • Free Dinner Trust

Young People

Under the theme of Young People stories were shared on the following:

  • Diocesan Youth Ministry Programmes; Anois, Brú, Lourdes, Muintearas Íosa
  • Junior Pastoral Council (Askeaton/Ballysteen Parish)
  • John Paul II Award (Kilfinane Parish)
  • Altar Server Ministry (Bruff/Grange/Meanus Parish)
    (This story could not be presented on the day; however, it was included in the booklet).

Faith Formation and Education

Under the theme of Faith Formation and Education stories were shared on the following:

  • Programme of Formation of Lay Pastoral Ministry and Leadership (Irish Institute of Pastoral Studies)
  • Godly Play Storytelling (St John’s Parish)
  • St Ita’s Faith Camp: Abbeyfeale Parish
  • Faith and Film (St Saviour’s Parish)

Liturgy and Life

Under the theme of Liturgy and Life stories were shared on the following:

  • Children’s Liturgy (Raheen Church)
  • Congregational Singing (Patrickswell/Ballybrown Parish)
  • Technology and Digital Media in the Church (Raheen/Mungret/Crecora Parish)
  • Dawn Mass at Kilteery Pier; Liturgies outside Church Buildings (Loughill/Ballyhahill Parish) (This story could not be presented on the day; however, it was included in the booklet)

New Models of Leadership

Under the theme of New Models of Leadership (linked with Liturgy and Life and Faith Formation and Education themes) stories were shared on the following:

  • Lay Led Liturgies (Glin Parish)
  • Funeral Team (Templeglantine/Tournafulla/Mountcollins Parish)
  • Baptism Team (Ballingarry/Granagh Parish)
